Job Description
Salary iro £20,000 p.a. pro rata [i.e. £10,000 pa for 17.5 hrs/ week] subject to experience and qualifications
Flexible working hours to include week days, school holidays, evenings and weekends
Four year project:
starts 2010,
ends December 2013
Reports to Project Leader
Job Purpose
1. To Work with the Project Leader to deliver the aims and outcomes of the Project
2. To support and empower young people involved in designing, running and evaluating the project
3. To engage with local communities and young people to identify local needs and issues
4. To drive a large mobile resource unit and trailer to different locations across West Kent, including school holiday, evening and weekend work, to come alongside and work with young people wherever they are
5. To support the Project Leader, young people and tutors to design and deliver training courses to meet identified need
6. To work alongside other voluntary and statutory agencies on the mobile resource unit to deliver information, advice and guidance to support young people
7. To work with the Horizon Project [supported vocational training in construction skills] and Ryder House [supported housing and youth inclusion programme] to enable trainees and residents to help deliver training or provide peer support on information or activity sessions
8. To work with young people from the project and from other projects within West Kent YMCA to design and deliver local projects for the benefit of their communities
9. To help build bridges between young people, their communities and local agencies
10. To make referrals to other projects within West Kent YMCA and to other agencies as appropriate to meet a young persons identified need
11. To ensure all monitoring and recording systems are being used effectively
12. To promote the project and network with other agencies and community groups
13. To ensure all safeguarding, health & safety and other duties of care are met; including completion of risk assessments and administering first aid
Driver training will be provided clean driving licence, minimum age 21 with two years driving experience required.

Person Specification:
Essential:
To be a Christian or to be supportive of the Christian ethos of the YMCA movement.
Experience of working with and challenging young people
Current knowledge of some of issues affecting young people e.g. substance misuse, family breakdown, homelessness, mental health, learning or physical disabilities
Ability to work with and support young people with challenging behavioural issues
Demonstrable ability and skills to support, mentor and develop young people
Knowledge and experience of safeguarding - protection from abuse procedures.
Proven experience and skills as a "self starter"
Experience of using monitoring and evaluation systems
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Reliable with a flexible and patient attitude calm in a crisis.
Confident vehicle driver and minibus driver as specified above
Flexible approach to working hours and occasional travel out of County
Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Good listener, gifted communicator who can empower young people
Willing to engage in further training / learning and group / individual supervision
Able to set and maintain professional boundaries within a small team
An excellent role model for young people
Willing to work outside in all weathers
Desirable:
Knowledge of training methods and provision
Experience of working with and supporting volunteers
Excellent administration and computing skills
Experience and skills in community development work, social inclusion, consultation, youth empowerment and equality and diversity
Experience of mentoring trainee youth workers
Over 25 and/or 5 years driving experience desirable for insurance purposes
Post is part of Vehicle 4 Change [V4C]
