Horizon Project | Supported Vocational Training

The Horizon Project

The Horizon project works with young people aged 14 to 25 [some of whom are disadvantaged or vulnerable] enabling them to gain vocational and personal skills and accredited qualifications, helping them back into school, further training or work.
Skilled trainers, key workers and functional skills tutors provide one-to-one intensive support, building confidence, addressing individual problems and overcoming barriers to learning, such as behavioural or emotional issues or poor literacy and numeracy.   Sports, outdoor trips and community projects carried out by the trainees all help to keep them highly engaged and motivated.

Many schools commission us to offer holistic, supportive work based learning for pupils who are at risk of exclusion  CLICK HERE if you would like to consider a part time or full time place.  The studies, qualifications that we currently offer Work Based Learning trainees are listed HERE.

The Horizon Project also runs courses for adults with learning disabilities and for adults who may be unemployed or needing to build their confidence or personal skills to help them back into the work place or onto further training.

There are currently 3 Horizon Project centres across West Kent - shown below and on the left hand menu - offering different vocational skills and support provided on a 1-1 basis and in small groups.

You can contact any of them direct to arrange a visit, taster session or just to find out more... or CONTACT - Angi - the project manager - on Mobile / Text 07872 987764 or email Horizon.Project@WestKentYMCA.org.uk

Although we were very sad to close this centre there is some GOOD NEWS
- we are working to start a NEW painting & decorating project once we have secured sufficient funding [in 2013 / 2014 we hope]
- our V4C youth outreach team and U TURN community training programmes are very active in Edenbridge & surrounding villages
- young people living in Edenbridge still access our Horizon Project centres at TN2 and Tonbridge
- we are working in partnership with other charities such as ECT and WKE to improve youth work provision and opportunities in EDENBRIDGE
- Recent Edenbridge events for Young People that V4C have run include a wonderful photography exhibition and a sleep out - to highlight how many people sleep rough every night....
